It's just a better view of what he looked like 100 years before the start of the series, since there isn't a good shot of him during that time. The only noticeable change is the lack of the mustache.

Chojiro Sasakibe was the lieutenant of the 1st Division during the events of the fanfic and of Turn Back the Pendulum. He has remained in that position for at least 110 years, as he is still the lieutenant under Genryusai Yamamoto during the current days.

He makes sporadic appearances in Part I, normally by Captain Commander Yamamoto's side. However, he takes part in two battles: the first, when the Hollows first invade Seireitei, where he shows high level Kido and uses the lightning abilities of Gonryomaru to fend off the creatures; the second, during Arturo Plateado's attack, where he plays a vital part in taking the Arrancar to his limits, by powering up Seigen Suzunami's Shiden Raiko.
